MacDuff 14 Year Old Tasting Notes
Official tasting notes
Orange marmalade, dark chocolate and ginger snaps.
Ed's review
Colour: Natural colour, medium gold. Oily in the glass with tears that develop slowly.
Nose: Stewed berry compote. Sweet malt with a slight earthiness to it. Caramel over ginger snaps. Red apples and ripe pears.
Palate: Medium to full mouthfeel. Velvet sweetness with fruit caramel. Milk chocolate digestives. Warm ginger cake studded with macadamia nuts and orange peel, served with thick creamy custard. Alcohol is well integrated, contributing to that beautiful mouthfeel.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Fruit and nut milk chocolate. Red berries in honey. Vanilla and a little spice.
Overall: Delightful, really enjoyed this. Macduff is not a distillery that one sees that often, and this is a very tasty find.
About this Lady of The Glen whisky
MacDuff Distillery was founded in Banff by the river Deveron. It is recognised for medium bodied and sweet whiskeis with nutty and spice notes. Matured in a hogshead and then finished in a first fill ex-oloroso cask for six months by Lady Of The Glen.
Another distinctive highland whisky whose medium bodied whisky is capable of standing up to a more aggressive oak influence. Hence the reason Lady Of The Glen chose this whisky for finishing in a where the oak will be assertive in a short space of time due to the smaller than normal size of cask. The small cask has offered this whisky a delicious citrus and oak spice character.
