Firkin Rum Tasting Notes
Mike's tasting notes
Nose: Sweet and subtle wafts of caramel and vanilla lead into toffee which sails into hints of oak and a turn of sherry to bring us home.
Palate: Like a lover's kiss, the senses align as caramel, vanilla and toffee remain. Beautiful citrus with succulent satsuma wash through as a uniquely Scottish/Caribbean experience.
Finish: A buttery coconut, joyful raisin and baked spice finish.
Serge Valentin's review
Colour: Deep gold.
Nose: Boy this works, after a Mhoba at 58% and a Bielle at almost 50%. Some smoky tones, old stump, mushrooms, damson tarte, roasted peanuts and pecans, blackest turron, burnt muffins, ashes in the fireplace, a little thyme tea… Love it. All that at 43% and without any age statement, aren't we going soft?
Palate: And it would continue. Great TDL, but wondering about that Speyside impact. These apples, perhaps?
Finish: Medium, saltier, tarry, with a little carbon, juniper, oranges, elderberry syrup. Add Champagne and Perrier, and presto, a proper spritz. Only the signature part is a little weaker, and reminds us that this was bottled at, wait, is this possible, 43% vol.
Comments: Much fun. SGP:462 - 87 points.

About this Rum
Serendipity is a wonderful thing. A chance encounter between Jim Ashley, the fabulous founder of Outlaw Rum, and Firkin's mighty Mike Collings, has produced something extraordinary.
Outlaw Rum imports a premium blended rum from Trinidad and Tobago and matures them in a selection of malt whisky casks from Scotland's premier distilleries. Coincidentally, Firkin's famous custom casks are coopered from first-fill bourbon and new French oak just a few miles down the road (read more about ). Why it's just neighbourly to have these two pioneers collaborate!
Jim's special rum has been aged in Mike's innovative casks. Mike chose a cask that had recently held the pride of Speyside. The result is something truly unique. This first release lets the Firkin flavours flow through the exceptional rum to produce something very special indeed.
